Alhaurin el Grande

Alhaurin el Grande is a town located some 30 Kms from the capital city of Malaga on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Alhaurin is situated 239 meters above sea level and is one of the most picturesque places in the Guadalhorce river valley.

Archaeological remains of a Roman settlement have been found near Alhaurin el Grande, that existed during the times of emperors Probo and Diocleciano. The Moors were the first to name this town, Alhaurin, which some historians translated as, The Valley, from the Arab root of "Al-Haur", due to its location in the valley of the Fahala river, while other historians consider the name as originating from the Arab word, Alhauerin, which means Almighty God.

In 1487, when the town was conquered by the Christian Monarchs, the name of the town became known as Alhaurín el Grande.

ALHAURIN GOLF - The Alhaurin Golf complex, designed by Seve Ballesteros and literally “cut out of the mountains” is situated between Mijas and Coin, high in the mountain range of the Sierra del Mijas. It offers incredible views of the forested mountains, the valley, the Mediterranean and distant North African coast line.

The 18 hole par 72 golf course is challenging off the yellows and totally Tiger Woods off the whites! There’s a testing 9 hole par 3, that’s mainly over water and a driving range and golf academy. With an average of 320 days of sunshine in excess of 20 degrees and 90 other golf courses between Malaga and Gibraltar - this is indeed a Golfers Paradise!!

PERFECT LOCATION -  Malaga International airport is 30 minutes from Alhaurin.  Fuengirola’s 5 kms of sandy beaches is only 20 minutes - Marbella, Puerto Banus and exceptional shopping is just 30 minutes. There is excellent local riding and guided mountain walks.
